On the occasion of her birthday, Aki found herself alone — her phone broken, her funds depleted, with no one by her side. In that quiet moment of vulnerability, she turned to Allah and offered a sincere prayer for companionship.

Shortly after, a young man took a seat beside her — a stranger, visibly distressed as well. Upon recognizing him as the second-place finisher in the preboard examinations, Aki was moved by a profound realization: that even the most accomplished individuals carry burdens of their own. There is no perfect circumstance — only the grace of gratitude.

That young man was Qais.

Through the kind introduction of their mutual friend, Rom — whom Aki had befriended at her review school boarding house — Qais and Aki were formally acquainted, marking the true beginning of their story.

Before departing for Samar, Qais came to Aki with something he could no longer keep to himself — he told her, with sincerity, that he had feelings for her. In the same breath, he made her a promise: he would wait.

Aki received his words with equal honesty. She shared with him the aspirations she had yet to fulfill — to provide a home for her family, to achieve financial security, to reach the milestones she had set for herself before she could consider marriage. Both Qais and Aki were appointed as Finance Analysts at a subsidiary of Unilab — working alongside one another as they steadily and purposefully laid the groundwork for the lives they each envisioned.

Their professional journeys led them in different directions, yet their aspirations remained aligned. Aki advanced to Finance Manager at SM, while Qais rose to Finance Controller at URC. Each pursued their respective ambitions with quiet determination — honoring, in their own way, the promise that had been made.

Fate brought them together once more, this time as colleagues at ING. And in May of that same year, Aki fulfilled the first of her most cherished commitments — she purchased a piece of land to build a home for her family.
